About Our School

A Brief History of RLSS

ROBERT LOUIS STEVENSON SCHOOL was established under the Charitable Trusts Act (1965) to operate as a charitable organization and to engage in educational activities.  It is an independent community school established to provide an alternative educational facility.  It is managed by the Trust Management Board elected by the parents of RLSS students.   The daily management of the school is the responsibility of the Principal and the Vice Principals.

The school has developed from a 64-student (mostly Primary) School to the 715-student Primary/College Educational Institution we are today.   From its simple beginnings at Siusega (Faleata district on Upolu) in 1987, the school moved to Lotopa in 1992 with a roll of 235 students.    In 1996, because of the increase in numbers, the Secondary was moved to the Mualia building at Sogi for about a year and a half while the Secondary School was being built.  The Secondary moved to Tafaigata in October 1998.  At that time the total school roll was 480 students – Pri & Sec.  In 2002 the Year 8’s moved to Tafaigata, from Lotopa, to allow for Years 1 – 7 to have 2 classes per level.   Currently Years 1-7 are at the Lotopa campus, and Yrs 8 – 13 are at Tafaigata.  We have a current roll of 715 students for both schools.

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.
